Job Description:

As a School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist you will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and social success by addressing their speech and language needs within the school environment. Your work will involve assessing, diagnosing, and providing therapy for a range of communication disorders that impact students' ability to participate in the educational setting effectively.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students to identify speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. Use a variety of assessment tools and observational techniques to determine students' needs.
  •  Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to gather information and develop a complete picture of each student’s communication abilities and challenges.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the educational team, including teachers, school counselors, and parents.
  • Set clear, achievable goals for each student’s speech and language development and design intervention strategies that align with their educational needs.
  • Therapeutic Interventions:

    • Provide direct therapy services to students to improve articulation, language comprehension, expressive language, fluency, and social communication skills.
    • Utilize evidence-based practices and tailored therapeutic activities to address individual student needs and enhance their participation in classroom activities.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school professionals to support students’ communication needs and integrate therapy goals into classroom activities.
  • Provide training and support to teachers and staff on strategies to support students with speech and language disorders.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Prepare detailed reports on student progress for IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school evaluations.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies to support learning at home.
  • Participate in school and community events to promote awareness of speech and language development and advocate for students’ needs.
  • Professional Development:
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with the latest research, techniques, and best practices in speech-language pathology.
  • Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure: Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Arkansas. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred.

  • Experience: Experience working in a school setting or with children is highly desirable. New graduates with strong clinical training and a passion for working in educational environments are also encouraged to apply.

    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
