Job Description:

As a School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist, you will be instrumental in supporting students’ academic and social success by addressing their speech and language needs within the school setting. Your role will involve assessing, diagnosing, and providing therapy for a range of communication disorders that affect students' abilities to engage effectively in their educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders in students. Utilize a variety of diagnostic tools and observational methods to gather detailed information.
    • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to develop a thorough understanding of each student’s communication abilities and challenges.
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):

    • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the educational team, including teachers, school counselors, and parents.
    • Set clear, achievable goals for each student’s speech and language development and create tailored intervention strategies to meet those goals.
  • Therapeutic Interventions:

    • Provide direct therapy services to students to address articulation, language comprehension, expressive language, fluency, and social communication skills.
    • Use evidence-based practices and customized therapeutic activities to address individual needs and enhance classroom engagement.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school professionals to integrate therapy goals into daily classroom activities and support students’ communication needs.
    • Offer guidance and training to teachers and staff on strategies to support students with speech and language disorders.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports for IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school evaluations, ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Family and Community Engagement:

    • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies to support communication development at home.
    • Participate in school and community events to raise awareness of speech and language development and advocate for students’ needs.
  • Professional Development:

    • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in speech-language pathology.
    • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure: Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Georgia. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a school setting or with children is highly desirable. New graduates with strong clinical training and a passion for working in educational environments are also encouraged to apply.

    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
